I have had mine for about twelve years, it has served me well, doesn't have some of the options that a Bridgeport does, but it does everything I have needed to do.

I've got a 1974 MVN (powermatic/burke) and total machine depth is 48". Mine is stuffed into a corner and it's just about 5' from the corner to the front of the machine. The table on mine is an 8x32" and at max travel in each X direction the handles just about contact the walls, which is why the machine is about 12" from the corner.

7,594. Sep 11, 2017. #10. The factory Millrite belt (and good quality replacements) work just fine on those mills. They do not even need to be tightened, just snugged to work without slipping. They run smooth and quiet. The massive fasteners used for swinging the head to adjust the belt are way overkill for the job.

A Millrite is about 3/4 Bridgeport size, weighing about 1100 lbs. and generally costing $1000 up. The #4 is about half as big and runs about half as much in cost. It's a LOT easier to move around than the Millrite. But the travel is limited to maybe 4" in-out and maybe 10" side-to-side.

You've probably got one of the good ones. It's really a US Burke "MVN". Millrite was just a sales name they cast into the rams. They're pretty decent little machines. Think of it like a 3/4 scale Bridgeport. I've got the same one, in storage. The nice thing about it is the second motor on the back for the power Z feed.

Looking at a Burke Powermatic Millrite MVN for purchase.

They are rigid for their size and weight. Those mills were made with at least four different spindles, R8, B&S 9, NMTB30, and others. There were also a lot of other options. A three phase motor would be good to control spindle speed with (edit: by using a VFD), giving a wider range of infinitely adjusted speeds.
